Once you have booked your session, the next step is to decide what to wear.

Styling makes such a difference to your images, I can't stress this enough. You must be comfortable and feel like your outfit choices represent you as a family but there are some other things to consider too. Through experience I have been able to put together a personalised guide with tips and advice on styling for your photography session with me, Once you have booked with me I will send over and will be on hand to answer any questions you might have. Just to get you started I have listed below a few of the most important things to remember when choosing outfits for your family photographs.

  • Think about colours. Some photograph better than others, bright, loud colours don't look as good on camera. Stick to 3 or 4 colours and let that be your starting place - Coordinate, don't match! Start by choosing one outfit first and and pull a colour from it to dress everyone else.
  • Texture and layers are also important and can add depth to your images. Knits, lace, denim... these are all good fabrics that can be included.
  • Avoid too many patterns, so that your images are not busy, I recommend only one family member to wear patterned clothes, I would also avoid big logos and slogans to keep your images are timeless as possible.
  • Don't be afraid of a little colour. Muted tones photograph really well, but a pop of colour can bring an outfit to life.
  • Please don't think that you have to rush out and buy a whole new wardrobe for your session, and I will always be on hand to offer guidance and advice. For inspiration I have created some pintrest boards that you can view by clicking here.
